Event Details

You are invited to the first-ever screening of ALMOST HOME: TAIWAN. It's a rough cut and we want your opinion, so we've decided to screen the film at Anthology Film Archives. It's also  Columbus Day and 10-10 (it's the 100th anniversary of the founding of the ROC) -  two dates with fraught historic implications - we can all have a drink and think about how to celebrate it.

The event is FREE since we are hoping you will fill out a survey, but if you have a few bucks to throw our way, you can help pay for the screening and we would be eternally grateful. Donate $20 and we will even list you in the final closing credits under the title I THINK THEREFORE I YAM, which is pretty clever if I don't say so myself. (If you don't understand what's so clever about correlating Descarte with a tuber, come see the film...)

Monday, October 10
Anthology Film Archives
32 Second Avenue at 2nd Street
Doors open at 6:30
Screening begins at 7:00

Almost Home: Taiwan is a feature-length documentary that examines the legacy of political repression and the emergence of Taiwanese identity and independence, through the reunion of a Taiwanese family after 22 years.

In the documentary, filmmaker Victoria Linchong returns to Taiwan with her family, searching for long-lost connections and becoming re-acquainted with the unique culture of the island and its wild beauty. Bridging the deeply personal and globally political, Almost Home: Taiwan clarifies the controversies surrounding Taiwan, while introducing viewers to raucous night markets, aboriginal pride, saint trees and kissing fish.
